The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit movie trilogy is literally a sliding scale. The Unexpected Journey is not very different from the book, only with a few  (in my humble opinion) a not so great plot changes that get worse as the trilogy goes on. Such as in the battle of the mines of Moira they have a big fight between Azog and Thorin. But in the actual history of that battle Dain ( who comes in the third movie) cut off Azog's head in that battle. It seems a bit shallow for Azog to be holding a grudge against Thorin for cutting off his arm when it could have been Blog avenging the death of his father. Also Azog backing down after loosing his arm seem lame considering Lurtz had both his arms cut off was stabbed through and still dragged the sword deeper trying to bit Aragon's head. Ok, so as you can see anything with Azog in it isn't cannon for the rest of the movie. Him aside I love the beginning with Frodo (a cameo done right) and while I'll miss seeing Thorin at the bottom of the pile, I won't forget his iconic "I lost my way, twice". Which led to some pretty funny posts on the internet. Also the songs are amazing, I had goose bumps during "Over the Misty Mountains" and laughed at " That's What Bilbo Baggins Hates". Riddles in the dark, my favorite chapter, was excellently executed. If I have one complaint it was the change in how Bilbo actually answered the last riddle. It's Bilbo's luck that saves him as his scared plea accidentally becomes the answer. Interesting fact in the extended version at Rivindell Bofer sings the cat and the fiddle song that in the books Frodo sang at the Prancing Pony in the books and was supposed to be written by Bilbo. I probably could go on nit picking forever, but hey, there's two more movies to do that. As you'll see in later reviews the main problem with making The Hobbit movies is that while Lord of the Rings is very dark the Hobbit book is not. So while turning a children's book into an adult movie many things have to be changed. So in the end while The Unexpected Journey is in the minor catagory those changes snowball into a major problem.

Artemis Fowl

The worst piece of crap I’ve ever seen. What have you done to the real Artemis and when will he be vindicated? So much was wrong with the movie it would be easier to list what was right. Almost nothing besides names, the troll in Italy, and Holly punching Artemis in the face. But even the last one didn’t make much sense within the movie context. Even if you hadn’t read the book the plot makes little sense and is a washed out hollow shell of the story filled with cheesy trite overused movie tropes. Negative 90 percent.

The worst Adaption I never read

Normally I only write about books to movies I have seen, but my mom roped me into watching with her the movie she found on a free streaming app, “What a Girl Wants”. Basically it was a movie about a early 2000’s girl who’s mom and dad had gotten married by some sort of native people, but her dad was from an old British family of prestige and they did not approve of his choice of a wild American wife. So she was chased back to America pregnant with the protagonist Daphne. The basis of the movie is Daphne now graduated goes to Britain to meet her enstranged father, who has no idea she existed. The only problem is that not only is he running for some sort of political office, but he is about to marry another women with fine blood and teenage children of her own. Daphne flails through high society life, and meets a boy who is a “half breed” similar to herself who says his parents are the happiest people he knows, even though his mom has been disowned by her rich family.
