Film to Pen: An Experiment in Fan fiction (Spider-Man AU) Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Later that night I was on the floor of my room trying to see how much I had lost from my Spider-Man file. Ten articles, four photos, and one of my first maps of Spider-Man activity. It was just red dots for a sighting, now my most recent map was not only color coordinated by month but squares meant a fight and circles meant swing by sightings etc. Suddenly the door knob turned. I jump up grabbing the guard rail to the top bunk intending to lay low on the mattress, but instead I keep going, hitting the ceiling and sticking. Meanwhile before I can fully process what just happened Hey enters the room, probably wanting to make sure I was fine after everything today. He seemed nice, but I learned long ago those were the ones you had to watch for. I could feel every hair in my scalp as my braid hung down just brushing his spikey mohawk. Slowly I move my head forward and up watching my braid slid off him and bang my forehead on the ceiling which was closer then I realized. Squinting through the pain I see Hey's mouth fall open as he passes out. Wincing at the thud I try to unstick myself unsuccessfully. Annoyed as I was, an irrepressable joy wells inside me. If this was real, and each tug assured it more and more, I could finally really start the plan. The plan that was behind the file. The one I had dreamed of since going into the foster system. After a few seconds Hey's eyes reopened, blurrily he asks, "Why are you on the ceiling?". I think of multiple lies to say, but none of them are really any good. "Would you believe an incredible experiment with super glue?". Getting up Hey rubs
the back of his head, "With Sally and Sadie's slime projects as reference, no,".
"Well these are nice wooden slats, is the roof on the other side?" I say in an obvious attempt to change the subject. "Yes but-" he stops to look down at the contents of my folder I foolishly left lying on the floor. "Wow. That is a lot on Spider-Man. What are you planning? Trying to find him?".
"Yes, well no, not exactly, rrruh," I set my head on the ceiling to help stop the blood flow bursting in my ears. Making it hard to think straight, "Promise you aren't the gossip? That if I tell you it won't be all over school tomorrow?".
"I swear, nobody would listen to me anyway. I'm just the robot nerd," he says. Taking a deep breath I find the words come easily. I don't want to keep this to myself anymore, "It's a long story," I start, "And I've never told it before, expect to my little brother Beni. I don't think he really believes it though,".
